[13-14.12.2007] Round Table « New Synergies for an Inclusive, Cohesive Europe » (Paris, France)
The last few years have brought the realisation that an inclusive Europe free from poverty is inconceivable without the citizens' active participation, not only for the development of services but also through awareness of the impact which their choices have on social cohesion and sustainable development.
The European Inter-Network of Ethical and Responsible Initiatives (IRIS) has the goal of exploring innovative alternative responses for building an inclusive society founded on the players' shared responsibility, in particular by developing the potential of the sustainable, solidarity-based solutions, both economic and ethical, devised by the citizens to meet these challenges.
Participants in this round table will examine together how the governments engaged in the National Action Plans on Social Inclusion (NAPs/incl), the local and regional authorities and the citizens can combine their capabilities synergically to combat poverty and social exclusion, broadening the approaches and practices proposed by the ethical and solidarity-based initiatives. They will also consider how European local and regional variants of this synergy can be achieved, the better to further the success of the inclusion plans and of any other initiative directed against social exclusion.
Finally, the question of how to integrate these ethical and solidarity-based initiatives more fully into the actual design of the NAPs/incl will be addressed.
Representatives of the Council of Europe member states, in addition to those of the European Union, will be invited to take part in the proceedings.
